FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How many kms of riding can I expect to get between Niestone Pow3r Wax treatments?
The Niestone Pow3r Wax treatment will last up to 600 kms, depending on riding conditions. However, to achieve the longest life from your chain and components we recommend re-application between 300-500 kms. If your chain begins to sound dry, instead of the normal lubricious sound, it is a good indicator that it's time to re-treat your chain.
  • What lifespan can I expect from my chains and drivetrain with Niestone Pow3r Wax?
If treated as per our instructions, your chain will last approx. 15,000 kms, compared to the average 5,000 km life of a chain when using drip-on chain lubes that attract dust, grit, and road grime, which rapidly accelerate chain and component wear. most cyclist using Pow3r Wax will go through 2-3 chains (if replaced at standard wear measurement) before needing to replace their cassette. this equates to a massive 30,000-45,000 kms of cassette life, with chain rings lasting even longer.
  • How many treatments will I get from one packet of Niestone Pow3r Wax?
One packet of Niestone Pow3r Wax will give you 40+ treatments, if a swishing tool is used and excess wax is shaken back into slow cooker or included bag. This makes Niestone Pow3r Wax and extremely cost-efficient methond of lubrication. For example, if you ride 10,000 kms per year, and rewax your chain every 500 kms, a pack of Pow3r Wax will last you two years! That's just $30 a year for ultra-clean and long-lasting chains and drivetrains, silky smooth quiet rides with a 5 watt power saving! You've gotta ask yourslef.... Does your current lube deliver all this?
  • What do I do after riding in heavy rain?
Niestone Pow3r Wax does contain water resistant qualities but after riding in wet mucky conditions you should always rinse the chain well with fresh tap water to remove any dirt or grit that may have washed into the links. Spin the cranks to flick the excess water off, and dry with a cloth (a fan will also assist the drying). We also recommend an earlier re-application for optimum outcomes in chain and drivetrain longevity.
  • How long will re-waxing my chain take?
If you run 2 chains: 1. Remove chain from your bike... (30 seconds) 2. Grab your already waxed chain and put on you bike... (60 seconds) 3. Ride... (as many minutes/hours as you want) The rewaxing of the first chain can be done anytime that suits you, and is a multi-tasker's dream: 1. Place the removed chain into a bowl and cover with boiling water. Use the extra boiled water to make a cup of tea or coffee. Drink your cuppa while the chain soaks, agitating it a coulple of times (the chain, not your cuppa!) Remove chain and wipe with a cloth. Hang to dry. (5 minutes) 2. Turn on the slow cooker and melt the wax. This is your time to shine. Or mow the lawn, or make and eat lunch, or clean your bike (which is now a super quick job thanks to your still-shiny cassette and cogs), or just put your feet up and plan your next ride! (30 minutes) 3. Once the wax is melted, wax the chain as per the instructions, and continue with your chosen task while the wax works its magic on your chain. Remove chain, wipe down and hang to dry (15-20 minutes) And that's it! No more spending all that time cleaning the muck off your chain, cassette, jockey wheels, chainrings, legs, hands, furniture and cat! Of course you can run more than two chains if you would prefer to re-wax less often.
  • I'm not mechanically minded - the idea of removing and replacing my chain worries me. How do I do it?
Firstly, relax! We have customers who had previously never removed their chain become chain bosses in just two wax treatments! Start by putting the chain on the smallest chainring and one of the smaller cogs - this will give you some slack and make removal easier. Find the quick link on your chain and use chain llink pliers to squeeze the two pins together. This should release the link so the chain can be undone. The chain can now be pulled off. To replace the chain, place it on the cassette (the side with writing stamped onto it facing out) and thread it over the first jockey wheel. Then pass it above the pin below the first jockey wheel and wrap around the bottom jockey wheel. Thread the other end of the chain around the smallest chain ring so the two ends can meet. Add a quick link to both ends of the chain (make sure the directional arrow is pointing in the direction the chain rotates when riding. If there is no directional arrow, fit so that the rivet hole is before the slot in direction of rotation) Clip the pins into the larger slots on the quick links, and using the chain link pliers again apply force in the opposite direction to click the link into its closed position. Congratulations, you are now a chain boss too! Chain link pliers and quick links are available here
