Cleaning instructions:

IMPORTANT: Your chain MUST be ultra clean and 100% free from any oil or grease. The initial clean is a little time-consuming, but only needs to be done once. After that, your bike maintenance time will actually be reduced as there is no more messy drivetrain cleaning!

Step 1: Remove the chain from your bike or packaging if a new chain (new chains are covered in factory grease) and soak it overnight in a container of kerosene, mineral turpentine or other good quality degreaser. Gently shake the container for a minute every now and then.

Step 2: The following day remove the chain and dispose of the degreaser in an environmentally responsible way. Wipe container clean, refill with fresh degreaser and soak the chain again, gently agitating occasionally. After 4-5l hours remove the chain and tip the contents out - the contents should be clean and clear (if not, repeat step 2 until it is)

Step 3: While the chain is soaking degrease your cassette, chain rings and jockey wheels. Scrub clean then rinse all degreaser from the drivetrain and your chain.

Step 4: Soak your chain in a jar containing a little methylated spirits for 10 minutes, shaking gently to remove all traces of oily residue. This will allow the Pow3r Wax to adhere properly to your chain.

Waxing instructions:

Option 1:

Place the Pow3r Wax into a slow cooker or wax pot and heat to 90 deg C (optimal temperature) Place chain into the wax for 10-15 minutes (20 mins for first waxing). The swishing tool (available here) makes this easier, allowing you to swish the chain through the wax every 5 mins to facilitate the penetration of the wax into the chain's internal components.

After 15 minutes, remove the chain and allow excess wax to drip back into the pot. CARE: the chain will be HOT! The use of gloves is recommended. Remove chain from swishing tool and hang to cool.

Once the chain has cooled to room temperature, manipulate the chain to break the wax between the links and re-fit on your bike. We suggest you ride for 15 minutes before optimal performance and noise reduction is reached.

Option 2:

Open and stand bag provided in a pot of boiling water, with clean oil-free chain in molten wax, leave soak for 20 minutes. Stir with hook provided every 5 min. Carefully remove extremely hot chain with hook provided and hang to cool. When at room temperature, manipulate chain links to remove excess POW3R WAX.

Reapplication:

Remove chain and place in a bowl (preferably an old one, as there will be some residue left, and chain wax makes a poor salad dressing!)  Pour boiling water over entire chain and soak for 5 min, shaking occasionally to remove any contaminants that may be on the surface of the wax. (This process is not absolutely necessary, but we recommend it as it will prolong the life of your chain and components, as well as keep the wax in the pot free from impurities). Allow the chain to dry and follow waxing steps above.

We also offer a degrease and wax treatment for $40, or a wax-only chain treatment for $20 to get you started.
