Damien Lonergan is an A grade Zwift racer who rides an average of 600 kms each week, both on Zwift and in the outdoors. (Yes, you read that correctly... 600kms! Wow!)
Here is what he said after putting Neistone Pow3r Wax to the test recently:
"First impressions on the NPW wax. I have been using the Absolute Black Graphene wax before now, so basically comparisons to that. Application of the wax to the chain was not significantly different, I did get the impression lifting the chains (I did 2) from the pot that the NPW was darker on the chain, but after letting the wax drip back to the pot and a small wipe over external surfaces the chains looked normal. Putting the chain on the bike the NPW makes it heaps stiffer. The AB says to run the chain through your fingers/rag to free up the chain, so this was what I did with the NPW this morning as well. Even after this the chain was stiff enough to not mesh properly to the teeth of the chainrings / cassette / jockey wheels when first installed. Once riding this quickly (probably almost instantly once force applied) resolved. From a noise point of view the AB used to be pretty much silent as soon as it was installed. With the NPW there is a little noise for the first 5-10 minutes as the wax frees up in to the system properly. After that it was dead silent for the rest of the morning. Mess/wax falling of the chain I found to be less of an issue with the NPW than the AB, despite the AB claiming to be the most mess free wax available. Other than that the chain did what a chain was supposed to do. After the first few minutes it was silent. I put it through 65km easy, then 3 varying short race efforts and was not aware of anything happening untoward. The next step is seeing how long km wise before the chain gets a little noisy..."
"So, next feedback, chain was nice and quiet until yesterday, started to get just a tiny bit noisy then. So that was after about 550km. In comparison the other wax would have had a similar noise level at least 100km, probably more like 150km sooner. I normally used to run the chain out to a week and it would get much noisier as the last couple of days riding hit it. Changed the chain this morning to the second one when the noise levels were much lower. So first chain with NPW, as a comparison, and I would say so far the NPW seems like a better product to me!"
Thank you Damien, for your review! We are very pleased that NPW compares favourably to what you were previously using, and wish you many happy (and quiet) kilometres of racing!
